How To Create Your Career Break Budget in a Few Easy Steps

Creating Your Career Break Budget? Don’t Forget The Most Things!⠀

You gotta plan ahead if you’re taking a year off work, so here are some tips to keep your budget straight:⠀

1. Decide how many locations you want to visit? Your budget will differ greatly if you stay in one place for a year, versus visiting lots of cities.⠀ (Personally, I recommend slow traveling - take things slow and spend less as you explore each region for a longer period.)

2. Determine whether you’re open to working during the year. Housesitting is a good way to bring down your expenses when you’re taking a gap year from work.⠀

3. What are your travel non-negotiables? During my career break travel, I didn’t want to share a room with anyone I didn’t know - so that ruled out hostels (generally) for me and increased my budget.⠀

4. What are you willing to splurge and skimp on? I’ve both splurged and skimped on food to find a good balance.⠀⠀

5. Do you have a theme for your gap year? Is there something you want to experience everywhere you go? (ex. Going to the top of the tallest building in the city) Gotta budget for it!

6. Can you travel with someone else to bring down the costs? Maybe you’re not with one person the entire time, but splitting costs with different people as you move around.⠀
